Default screen | Low contrast screenARTISTS BEWARE
- The fraudsters are now targeting artists
They are sending emails to artists telling them they are
interested in purchasing their art works and to send them
more information of their art works - pictures and prices
etc.
The people sending these emails are NOT interested in
purchasing any art work. They have a number of scams.
- Number 1
Ask YOU to send them money - so they can pay off another
debt which then releases a 'cashier's cheque' which they
will send to you.
Number 2
Ask YOU to send them money on a variety of pretences - DO
NOT SEND MONEY TO ANYONE PRETENDING TO WANT TO PURCHASE YOUR
PAINTING.
Number 3
If you do receive a cashier's cheque - it is usually from a
'fake' bank account.
Number 4
THE FRAUDSTERS WANT YOUR BANK ACCOUNT DETAILS TO TAKE MONEY
FROM YOUR ACCOUNT. DO NOT GIVE YOUR BANK ACCOUNT DETAILS TO
ANYONE 'SUSPECT' TO TRANSFER MONEY.
- Number 5
DO NOT SEND GOOD IMAGES OF ANY PHOTOS TO ANYONE YOU ARE NOT
SURE IS LEGITIMATE - A good TIFF, JPG file or photograph can
be made into a print by a 'fraudster' and sold in huge
quantities.
Numbere 6
DO NOT REPLY TO ANY SUSPECT EMAILS - usually from a Hotmail
or Yahoo or overseas web mail account.
- Number 7
Any reliable buyer of art works will give you their name,
address, telephone number etc. CHECK OUT THEIR CREDENTIALS.
(If you want help - Contact us with this form
- Number 8
DO NOT SEND ART WORKS TO ANYONE BEFORE YOU HAVE RECEIVED THE
MONEY AND CASHED ANY CHEQUE ETC. REPEAT: DO NOT GIVE YOUR
BANK ACCOUNT DETAILS TO ANYONE 'SUSPECT' TO TRANSFER MONEY.
If you are in doubt - Contact Us and forward any suspect email to us. These
examples of emails which are being sent to any artist these
fraudsters can find - we have received copies of these
emails from many artists:
REMEMBER These names are given in good
faith,
they may be honest people ! ! !. If that is
the case Paintings and Prints2 expect to be notified by a
solicitor, if not assume they are guilty.
- The following e-mail is a copy of an artists, this lady was approached by an extremely honest sounding man, she had a doubt though and e-mailed us for an opinion.
We came to the conclusion that it was probably a scam, you wouldn't believe the things he said, anyway, we are now able to publish the last e-mail sent by this lady.
Her name is not viewable, she has had enough problems as it is.
