Ian Irving - Usk Valley Evening
Site description:Acrylics, watercolours and prints depicting many places in the UK and around the world.
Editors comment: Strong and bold describes some of Ian's work, take the main image above, 'Usk Valley Evening' the strong greens, a potential nightmare for some painters, does not appear to concern him. The middle distance trees, again another possible disaster poses no problems. A closer look at 'Chepstow Castle' 4th right below shows more of the same, vast distance, before we even reach the main subject. A strong willed artist to be admired.
First off we have ' Lleyn Winter', it is a a remote cottage on the Lleyn peninsula in north west Wales, wild. 'Ballast', is a painting of railway sidings in Newport, which is in South Wales. 'Glen Usk', well, stunning is my first thought. Just like 'Chepstow Castle' Ian's paintings are both loose yet full of striking detail, the last one, 'Usk Valley Winter', has so much colour perspective in it it would fail were it not correct. All of the artists work has close attention to perspective in general, it is because of this that it would be easy not to notice it.
