The Butterworth GallerySite description: Originals and Prints of Scotland by Howard and Mary Butterworth. A family run business on Royal Deeside. Editors comment: Howard Butterworth has become one of the better known artists who live and paint in Scotland. Scotland has some dramatic, even awesome landscape, this artist paints them all with equal skill. An incredibly good artist. Visit The Butterworth Gallery. |

Black Burn
Black Burn Melting snows swell the Black Burn as it rushes into Loch Muick. |
The first row: The first painting is, 'Crail in Fife', what a complicated painting, perspective must have been a nightmare. 'Loch Tay near Killin', a painting that is full of atmosphere. 'Aberdeen's historic fishing village', how this place could tell a thing or two, if it could that is. Again, Howard's style stands out. The second row: The next one is, 'Sunrise in the Artist's garden', Scotland has many scenes but this one in your own garden, awesome. 'West Coast castle on Loch Duich', is another historic Scottish castle. Last I have chosen this view, 'River Dee at Potarch', just because of the freedom it portrays, a stunning painting. |

Howard paints in a distinct style and I can honestly say I love the work. There are so many paintings on display on his site, it is breathtaking. Visit The Butterworth Gallery. All of the paintings below are by Mary Louise Butterworth, like her father Mary is skilled with 'original' landscape paintings but unlike her father she seems to have a strong feeling for the atmospheric content of the night time, a world we just consider 'dark', to Mary the dark is a challenge, gives inspiration, I don't know as only the artist could put this into words. |

Rainy Nights
This painting, 'Rainy Nights' is by Mary Louise Butterworth and is it a painting! Where do you begin as an artist, brilliant work. |
The third row of images: The first painting is called 'Dreamtide' and it really does evoke dreams. Next we have, 'Murray Terrace', when I look at this work I can 'sense' it's almost the evening, it's real. 'Midsummer', is a painting showing the late bluebells lit up by the suns rays as it penetrates the silver birch trees. I cannot do this painting justice, you need to see the original to appreciate it. The last row comprises: This painting, 'Delirium', shows the beauty of the birch when Autumn duly arrives, a lovely picture. Now is a painting that is one of those that beg the question, 'how did Mary paint that, how', indeed how is a good word to describe 'Theatre', I wouldn't know where to start, this artist really is exceptional. 'The Long Way Home', is a painting that gives the viewer the sense of realism, looking at it I can feel the atmosphere, another brilliant painting. |
