Landscape Artist Chris Chalk

Site description: Landscapes and Seascapes by West Wales Landscape Artist Chris Chalk - Original Paintings & Prints.

Editors comment: I'm not sure where to begin, for a Monday morning this artist's work made my work a pure pleasure. A prolific painter such as Chris can change from landscape to portrait to animals in a flash, no matter which painting he's working on they get the same attention to detail, and my goodness isn't he good. New Quay Pier, Ceredigion West Wales

The small coastal town of New Quay here in West Wales has a wealth of subjects for the artist, again, the strong light focuses the eyes to the figures, then the boats, and the vanishing point just comes naturally.
The town itself is quite beautiful and lends itself completely to the artist, a lovely place. Chris takes full advantage of this to create beautiful paintings for us all to look at.

New Quay Pier, Ceredigion West Wales

The first row: The 'Siberian Tiger in snow', is just beautiful, stunning work. 'Llangranog from Ynys Lochtyn', now another one of my favourite's, yes I have more than one, which possess so much atmosphere, light, shade, an incredible painting given the distance between the artist and the subject matter. Once again looking down, that's not easy. 'The most remote phone box in Wales', the title speaks for itself, they are pretty remote anywhere these days.

The second row: The next is 'Ceibwr Bay coast path', difficult perspective is perfect. For an artist to paint cliffs while looking down this is a tough one, Chris manages to make it look easy, it isn't. Ceibwr Bay was a place of interest to smugglers as well, back in the 70's I think it was, probably before as well. 'Foel Eryr rocks - Preseli Mountain', what a view, for miles and miles. 'Newport Parrog slipway', is yet another quality painting.

The large image below, 'Tafarn Bwlch - Preseli Mountain', In this work I can feel the warmth of the low sun as it creeps across the landscape. The artist has a good eye for perspective and this work is a good example of that, the chimney, the lane, the way it vanishes into the distance. Excellent composition give this a well balanced finished painting.
It makes me want to go there just to experience the beauty of the landscape, and the peace and quiet.

Tafarn Bwlch - Preseli Mountain

This painting Tafarn Bwlch is of two derelict farm houses on the road leading over the Preseli mountains south.
The way Chris captures the light is important, a painting without light is dead, flat, just lifeless, he really puts a lot of thought into his work.

The third row of images: This work, 'Saint Dogmaels Riverside', as a painter Chris has 'glued' together land and water, the boat just sits waiting patently for the tide to come to its rescue. 'Pembrokeshire Landscape', lovely strong sunlight really do bring this painting to life. 'The Cubs', well the title says it really, lovely.

The last row comprises: 'Mwnt beach - Ceredigion', isn't this painting nice, what a view. 'Preseli hills - Pembrokeshire', it's fair to say these rolling hills are formidable, imagine walking and low cloud arrives! 'Strumble Lighthouse', another well thought out composition, just brilliant.
