Barbara Place

Poppy field
Site description: Much of my inspiration comes from nature, and I consider myself a colourist/watercolour painter, but enjoy other mediums and styles too.
Editors comment: Barbara does not have many paintings on display but what are there really do appeal to me as a watercolour painter. She seems to have an excellent eye, not just for colour, but for the original drawing. Paintings such as 'Red chair lilies and bananas', a work in inks for example, have a combination of a soft, subtle flower rendition moving gently to the hard lines of the chair. 'Hide the Shoes' is so good I can't even find them, joking aside this is another fine watercolour showing excellent composition and tonal balance.
'Oriental Poppies', more subtle, soft, almost pastel like reds with a little gentle background of cool blues and just a hint of yellow, absolutely lovely.
I have left my favourite until last, the 'Poppy Field', what can I say, this painting speaks volumes for the rest of Barbara's work. Some of Barbara's work is pure watercolour at its best, go and enjoy the full size images.
Another point I feel I should mention is the works that Barbara has for sale are an unbelievable price, some are just £40.00. Crazy price for works of this caliber.
