  • Editors comment: I like this painting because I do find paintings of the sea quite a challenge, we have the intense blue on the horizon, a slightly different tone to the rest, preceded by the subtle greens and gentle blues. Above this we have the almost silvery high clouds, the type that don't dump a ton of rain on you, a mixture of soft greys and blues that help the lighthouse stand out. The lighthouse itself has good shape and strong contrast with its surroundings, I like strong contrast as it brings the whole painting to life. The whole painting is alive with the loneliness of the scene, very lonely. A nice place to live ! you bet.

  • Editors comment:Beautiful flower paintings, there aren't many paintings on display but the ones that are lovely. I have chosen this one just because I like it. Cool blues with a dash of yellow here and there combining to give this lovely piece of art.

  • Site description: Landscapes and woodlands/Scenes of Cumbria and the Lake District/Boats Coasts and Harbour's.
  • Editors comment: I have chosen this painting because of its level of difficulty, extremely high. Susan has captured a subject that I, and many others, constantly strive for, it may not look a difficult painting but I shall explain. The white/ bluish colour of the wave is a interpretation of the foam that occurs with every wave, in oils this is a walk in the park, watercolour, a nightmare. This re-production of nature is sublime, beautiful even, perfect is my opinion, the artist has many works like this on display.

  • Site description: Developed from my life' s works and my project From Africa to Iceland: A Visual Celtic Voyage published as a book in December 2007 and complemented by an exhibition at the National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth.
  • Editors comment: This painting, ' Basque Houses at Ciboure; near St Jean du Luz', is in marked contrast to John's paintings of Wales etc. The strong sunlight has been captured nicely, the perspective is deceptive with the building behind the man with the oar in a different position to the rest of the buildings. You need to see the large image on John's site to appreciate the difference, when looking at that you can see how complicated the drawing is. It must have been a devil to draw.

  • Editors comment: 'Amsterdam Bicycles' is the name of this painting, I have chosen this one as representative of the majority of David's work. It is a refreshingly different style, I actually love the style. The artist has a 'loose' style, the way he treats perspective is brilliantly different. The buildings in this painting say it all, the bicycles are another example, a unique piece of work. I can honestly recommend you to pay a visit, there are many paintings on display and several pencil drawings too. I love them all.

  • Site description: Prints of Scottish Watercolour Landscape Paintings by Sam Austrin-Miner
  • Editors comment: It is a pleasure to see so many watercolours in one site, Sam has a style that I adore, letting the pigment of the paint do the talking. This image here is a typical painting, the artist uses the 'wet in wet' style that was promoted to huge success by John Blockley. The artist wets the paper and just at the right time drops in the paint, I say the right time because if it's the wrong time mud is the result. Sam has no muddy paintings at all. Beautiful prints at an excellent price, which averages £36.00. Go and take a look, what an excellent Christmas gift to a discerning art lover!

  • Editors comment: Beautiful watercolours as they are meant to be, loose, with many washes being allowed to run into one and other, albeit intentional. This style allows nature to almost take over, the artist seems to have nature under control as these washes have settled where they were meant to be. All of Sam's work follows this theme, he picks out a focal point and then works around it being very careful about what to leave out, what to leave out is important, difficult even. I am sure you will thoroughly enjoy a visit to Sam's site, I have.

  • Editors comment: Just look at this little fella, cute or what. Judy paints interesting subjects, this is just one example, the artist classes this work as 'whimsical' cute is my description. It must be quite difficult to think of subjects like this, then to draw and paint them. She is a talented lady, you will certainly enjoy visiting her site, I have.

  • Editors comment: The artist gives us a feast of colour to set alight even the most dull day. The strong use of blues, greens, yellows and reds, all mixed in equal strength co-exist quite happily in all of Brian's paintings. This one here has been chosen as it is the current 'Print of the Month' that is on offer, the price is good as well so you may need your credit card with you. Seriously, the print is well priced. I have enjoyed looking at Brian's work, if you like lots of bold colour you will as well.

  • Editors comment: The artist paints with a traditional palette of complimentary colours that evolve into lovely clean watercolours. I like this image in particular because it combines strong lines, as in the building and gates, with soft landscape curves and shapes. We have warm colour and cool colour, excellent composition, and composition is king. I recommend you pay a visit to Don's site and see for yourself.
