They say practice make perfect and that if at first you don't succeed then try try again.
I discovered that my first major mistake was in trying to capture too much detail in the initial drawing. Many times i felt like giving up. But after many hours of practice and with encouragement from others around me i eventually discovered that a very simple outline of the scene and a little imagination is all you need to get the basic image onto your canvas.
The painting then starts to flow from the simplicity of the sketch on your paper and your individual style begins to develop from not being restricted by too much detail in the sketch.

Editors comment: Peter paints in my favourite medium, the paintings offer a delightful insight into the artists mind. Uncluttered, clear and focused on the task in hand. He mentions in his description about putting too much detail into his work, that's a tough call, it's easy to overpaint, more so in watercolour. A mess usually results. The artist has figured that one out and the result is clear, inspiring contemporary watercolour paintings.
I do like the Sunset on the Lake, that has a calming effect, Mountain Range is quite dramatic and has a good feeling of depth. Winter Shadows, now, Winter pictures in watercolour are a gem, this one I do like, again, because of the warmth.
I like all of Peter's work, it's a pleasure on the eye.
