Editors comment: I love this pretty watercolour, "Strumble Head Lighthouse", the owner of this painting has a good eye for watercolour and it's clear translucent quality. The incredible colour of the heathers and gorse would have been a challenge, why!, get them wrong and it's a puddle, get them right and boy, it's a joy to behold. Make no mistake it is a long way down these cliffs and the artist has it right. John uses a style that is slightly reminiscent of J M W Turner and I like it.

Nothing is overworked, nothing looks labored, it all just looks so easy. Painting is everything but easy though, the artist knows exactly when to stop. Trust me that's a key attribute.

Editors comment: When I first visited this artists site I was immediately taken with the fact Joanne can paint an excellent portrait as well as abstract floral. I say this because some people make the mistake of thinking an artist who paints abstract cannot paint 'proper' pictures. Joanne has painted this picture 'Blazing Tulip' with the same vigour and skill as the portrait shown in the 'Mixed' category. The strong contrast of the dark background is brightened by the striking yellow of the flower. A nice piece of work that would;d grace any light coloured wall. Nice one.

Once again I must stress that every artist has work to this standard and I admit to being at a loss over which images to choose. One has to wonder at the skill in knowing when to stop painting, if that sounds ridiculous think about it, to much detail and the painting would lose the atmosphere, very clever.
The technique of the artist is further demonstrated when you view his life drawing pages, again Allan seems to know just when to stop, brilliant. I really do recommend that you pay a visit, this is another artists site that you will enjoy.

The artist chooses a completely different aspect to what we have come to expect, looking down on this subject creates all manner of problems, perspective being the main. However, the perspective is spot on, Katherine must spend a lot of time creating the image, first of all in her mind and then into the painting. Excellent work, it really is.
